(Continued from page 1) Our Maryland non-Stock Corporate Charter has been granted "Duvall Creek Environmental Trust, LLC" . Our EIN number has been assigned and we have filed for our 501c.3 status. Our bylaws state that there will be five permanent Trustees; they currently are: · Bob Emmet - Hillsmere Shores, · Ron Sweany - Kitty Creek, · Jay Phillips - Quay Harbor, · John Elstner - Northeast Shore · Larry Crippen - Fishing Creek Farm. The office of the Trust will be Bob Emmet's home at 422 Holly Drive in Hillsmere. Email comments and questions to Dr.Emmet@comcast.net. A directory of Trustees, and other supporters will be published on the website. Currently we are establishing the proposed scope of the Trust activities. Anything that affects the ecology of any part of the Creek is of concern to DCET. Tributary sedimentation, the initial concern, has been caused by development without storm water management, which has lead to the McCrone Watershed study as a first step. We should support any efforts that stabilize this watershed, such as the Annapolis Neck Peninsula Federation, which is attempting to limit development on the lower neck leading to increase in storm runoff. We shall develop a comprehensive, coordinated plan of the usage of the entire shoreline because erosion is interconnected between areas. With respect to the marine life, our website will list and track each species of animal and plant as an indication of progress. The biota stabilize the shore and purify the water. Reestablishing species diversification in the silted tributaries and commercial fish, crabs and oysters in the Creek and River will give the kids summer fishing jobs, which is a traditional occupation that has been lost. Controlling erosion of beaches and headlands during storms will protect natural environments, dwellings and reduce channel siltation. We have addressed all these areas in our planning. |
This comprehensive gathering of the Creek People has begun and a plan is taking shape. We will lay the initial ground work and build the grass roots organizations, the website, and relations with local environmental organizations: the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the South River Federation, the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Department of the Environment, the Army Corp of Engineers, The Coast and Geodetic Survey. We will have in place a frame work to support a coordinated community Creek improvement project. Our goal is to supply additional funds that will advance the 2006 starting date in the Capital Budget. Another benefit is that because of the initial planning and groundwork of the Trust, the County funds will be applied with directed purpose to achieve a better result in less time. Then we will be left with an organized and funded Creek Trust, which will continually improve the Creek into the future. In our grant applications we will list as one of the benefits that our Trust will become a prototype, groundbreaking model to coordinate restoration of many other Creeks of the Bay. This, of course, is the key to saving the Bay, because the tributaries are the principle nurseries of the fish and crabs and because they are the degraded human interface with the Bay. If we can balance the human and natural uses of this interface, then we can stabilize and recover the Bay. All these grand steps will increase our quality of life and property values.

Have You seen anything wild? DCET is requesting input,
photos or artwork of Duvall Creek fauna, flora, and water species.
Our goal is to create an online resource detailing all species of
the creek. This will provide a reference for generations to come.
